In 1999 Steve Matthews, Alan Gold, Sharon Kennedy, and Russ Snow decided to create the kind of retirement plan consulting firm they knew would meet the needs of their clients and scale to a national level. They knew they wanted to build a retirement consulting firm that would deliver the highest level of integrity, attention to detail, and level of care to their clients, team members, and partners.
They named the company Matthews, Gold, Kennedy & Snow, Inc., later changing it to the dba MGKS and began building the trusted resource our clients, partners and affiliates have come to rely on.
After 30+ years and the retirement of two of the founding members as well as the sad passing of one, the MGKS team gathered to look forward to the next 25 years. As we addressed our goals and vision for the future we came to the agreement that updating the name, the brand, and the messaging of our company would help align our team behind our shared vision for the future.
Nydia is latin for home, or nest. As we explored the strengths of our company and discussed what we were most proud of, the feeling of home, safety, reliability and steadiness were the themes that came to the forefront. We wanted to represent that feeling in our name.
For sailors, the barn swallow signaled they were close to shore.
Nesting in the shelter of piers and seaside structures, their long-tailed silhouettes meant one thing: land, safety, and home.
